My new favorite city: Montreal
When Brian found out a couple months ago that he was going to be sent to Montreal for 3 weeks in June for work, we immediately made plans for me to join him so we could make a mini-vacation out of it.
Since I got here, we’ve explored Rue Sainte-Catherine (the main business strip), the Plateau, Rue Saint Laurent (a super-happening restaurant and shops district right where Brian’s apartment is which has been a huge street fair the entire time I’ve been here!), the Latin Quarter, the Village, the Montagne, Old Port and Old Montreal, the amazing fresh market in Little Italy, and today we went to La Ronde, the roller-coaster-packed amusement park just off of the downtown on an island in the river.
I love this city! Still have a few more days here, and we’ll definitely be back for more!

Downtown Montreal from a wonderful lookout spot on the Montagne.

Brian and me happy after seeing Cirque du Soleil’s Totem.

A side street in Old Montreal.

The market at the Old Port, beautiful at night.

Notre Dame.

Us with an incredible seafood platter on Rue St. Laurent. As we ate and drank, our table was a perfect viewing spot for people watching at the incredible all-night street fair.

Beautiful berries and flowers at the huge Marché Jean-Talon in Little Italy.

The “biosphere” on Ile Sainte-Helene.

The Dragon and Monstre roller-coasters at La Ronde amusement park. We went on 5 roller-coasters today!

Brian walking up the immense Rue St. Laurent street fair in the afternoon sun.

Square du St. Louis, with it’s beautiful fountain, by day and by night.

Rue Prince Arthur, a romantic restaurant district just a block away from Brian’s apartment.

The campus of McGill University is impressive with it’s old architecture, tree-lined streets, and huge lawns. I had a nice lawn sitting in the sun looking at the beautiful buildings and flowers and watching the students and faculty come and go.

The colorful Palais des congrès de Montreal.

We had a blast in the Gay Village area on East St. Catherine. There is a sculpture there with each of many red posts having one letter at the top. Looking at it from the side, you can’t make out what it means, but when you stand in front of it, the letters come together visually to form words. It says: ” Il Y AURA UNE PLACE POUR CHACUNE DES LIBERTÉS QUE VOUS VOUDREZ BIEN VOUS ACCORDER”, which translates roughly to: “There will be a place for each of the liberties that you want to allow yourself.” Nice, and thank you, Montreal, for a great week!
